PIERCING AFTERCARE
Different kinds of piercing require different kinds of aftercare and also have very different lengths of healing periods. If you intend on keeping your piercing, do not leave the jewellery out for any length of time, even if fully healed.
Please follow the instructions given by your piercer or as below;
Always wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning your piercing. We recommend Savlon Woundwash as your chosen aftercare product for ALL body and ear piercing’s;
EAR LOBE PIERCING
Apply a squirt of aftercare morning and night. When bathing or showering, ensure you rinse the piercing site well and apply a further squirt of aftercare. Do not remove or replace the initial studs for at least six weeks.
EAR CARTILAGE & NOSE PIERCING (Helix, Tragus etc)
Apply a squirt of aftercare morning and night to the piercing and clean any residue that forms with a cotton bud soaked in aftercare.
Cartilage piercing’s are notorious for taking a long time to heal and are prone to swelling and minor infection, this is often caused by shampoo or soap residue!
Do not remove or replace the initial piercing jewellery for at least 6 weeks following being pierced and maintain the aftercare routine until any tenderness within the piercing has subsided.
BODY PIERCING (Nipple, Naval, Eyebrow, Surface etc)
Apply a squirt of aftercare morning and night to the piercing and clean any residue that forms with a cotton bud soaked in aftercare.
Piercing’s of this nature can spot bleed for the first 24 hours and are often sensitive to touch during the first week following piercing.
It is also common for a pinky redness to appear around the piercing site during the healing process (If this turns to a dark red and becomes hot it is the first sign of an infection).
This variety of piercing often look healed before they actually are, as they heal from the outside in! So although the outer of the piercing site may look normal the area within the skin that you cannot see may still be healing.
Ensure that any balls on the jewellery remain tight and do not remove or replace the initial piercing jewellery for at least 12 weeks following being pierced and maintain the aftercare routine until any tenderness within the piercing has subsided.
FACIAL/ORAL PIERCING (Madonna, Snakebites, Angelbites etc)
Apply a squirt of aftercare morning and night to the outer side of the piercing and clean any residue that forms with a cotton bud soaked in aftercare.
Use a non alcohol mouthwash twice daily to ensure that the jewellery within your mouth remains as clean as possible. Oral hygiene is important, especially during initial healing.
Piercing’s of this nature can spot bleed for the first 24 hours and are often sensitive to touch during the first week following piercing.
It is also common for a pinky redness to appear around the outer piercing site during the healing process (If this turns to a dark red and becomes hot it is the first sign of an infection).
The piercing site within the mouth can turn white during healing.
This variety of piercing need extra care to be taken during eating, as it is possible to pull the jewellery through the piercing location! It is also important to ensure that any swelling does not enclose around the jewellery. If this happen remove immediately.
Ensure that any balls on the jewellery remain tight and do not remove or replace the initial piercing jewellery for at least 6 weeks following being pierced and maintain the aftercare routine until any tenderness within the piercing has subsided.
TONGUE PIERCING
Use a non alcohol mouthwash at least three times daily to ensure that the jewellery within your mouth remains as clean as possible. Oral hygiene is important, especially during initial healing.
Expect some swelling of the tongue during the first week and piercing site to turn white during healing.
Try not to favour your tongue and continue to do things such as eating and drinking as normal as possible. Return to your piercer to have shorter bar inserted approximately a week after the initial procedure.
Ensure that any balls on the jewellery remain tight and do not remove or replace the initial piercing jewellery for at least 2 weeks following being pierced and maintain the aftercare routine until any tenderness within the piercing has subsided.
GENITAL PIERCING
Apply a squirt of aftercare morning and night to the piercing and clean any residue that forms with a cotton bud soaked in aftercare.
Piercing’s of this nature can spot bleed for the first 24 hours and are often sensitive to touch during the first week following piercing.
It is also common for a pinky redness to appear around the piercing site during the healing process (If this turns to a dark red and becomes hot it is the first sign of an infection).
Genital piercing’s generally heal quite quickly, although personal hygiene must be maintained to avoid infection.
Ensure that any balls on the jewellery remain tight and do not remove or replace the initial piercing jewellery for at least 2 weeks following being pierced and maintain the aftercare routine until any tenderness within the piercing has subsided.
